ICONIC GORLESTON SEAFRONT BUILDING UP FOR SALE
Published 22 April 2025
An iconic Norfolk seaside building has been put up for sale, offering an attractive opportunity to create a new leisure development.
The Ocean Room at Gorleston has been brought to the market by Arnolds Keys on behalf of Great Yarmouth Borough Council. The landmark building offers the opportunity to create a ‘key leisure venue which will add value to Gorleston’s tourist offering’ once it has been refurbished and redeveloped.
The 15,000 sq ft building, which includes a 10,000 sq ft circular main entertainment area as well as bars and kitchens, is situated right on the seafront in the town, and has a large south-facing terrace offering direct access to the beach.
The Ocean Room has a rich history, having hosted celebrities ranging from Blur to Mike Tyson, and was featured prominently in Danny Boyle’s 2019 film Yesterday. It was built in 1939 as the Floral Hall, becoming the Ocean Room in 1975.
“This iconic building offers a great opportunity for an investor to create a prominent bar, restaurant or leisure facility right at the heart of Gorleston,” said Guy Gowing, senior partner at Arnolds Keys.
“The building does require refurbishment and investment, but its wonderful location and rich history make this a very attractive prospect for serious players in the leisure and tourism sector.”
The asking price for the building has not been disclosed, with offers invited along with detailed proposals of how the new owner would redevelop the building and its future use.
