A ‘Ready, Steady, Cook!’ Showdown Draws the Crowds at Aylsham Show

Arnolds Keys helped serve up one of the highlights of the Aylsham Show as Charlotte Hayward and Lizzie Allen took part in a lively Ready Steady Cook challenge that ended in a crowd-voted draw.
The cooking challenge was set, the ingredients were revealed, and the audience gathered to watch the drama unfold as two members of the Arnolds Keys team took centre stage at this year’s Aylsham Show.
As sponsors of the Cookery Demonstration Theatre, Arnolds Keys was proud to play a key role in one of the show’s most popular attractions. The headline event saw Charlotte Hayward and Lizzie Allen from our Aylsham office take on a ‘Ready Steady Cook’ style challenge in front of a packed crowd.
Tasked with creating a dish from a surprise bag of ingredients, the pair had just 30 minutes to transform their mystery contents into something worthy of the judges’ approval. The all-important ingredient bags had been carefully put together by Agricultural Partner Tom Corfield, who certainly provided plenty to think about.
Despite having no advance warning of what they would be cooking, both contestants rose to the challenge brilliantly. Interestingly, they each opted for a pasta dish featuring lamb mince as the star ingredient, although their creations took very different directions. Charlotte incorporated aubergine into her recipe, while Lizzie chose peas, resulting in two colourful and delicious dishes that had the audience eagerly waiting for the tasting.
With the pressure mounting and the clock counting down, both cooks completed their masterpieces just in time before presenting them to the crowd. Audience members then had the difficult task of deciding which dish deserved the title. After much tasting, deliberation and discussion, there was ultimately no separating the two competitors, with the vote ending in a draw.
The cookery challenge was just one part of a fantastic day at the show. Throughout the event, members of the Arnolds Keys Agricultural Team were on hand to meet visitors, catch up with clients and enjoy everything one of Norfolk’s premier agricultural events has to offer.
Tom’s day was far from over once the cooking competition had finished. In addition to organising the challenge, he also stepped in to help auction flowers in the Aylsham Flower Club Marquee at the end of the day, bringing the event to a fitting close.
The Aylsham Show once again proved why it remains one of the highlights of the Norfolk calendar, bringing together the county’s farming, rural and business communities. We were delighted to be part of it and would like to thank everyone who came along to support the Cookery Demonstration Theatre and cheer on our contestants.
We are already looking forward to next year’s challenge. Whether Charlotte and Lizzie will be ready for a rematch is another question entirely.
