Business Rates Review

Business rates are a property occupier’s tax calculated using a simple formula: rateable value x Uniform Business Rate (UBR).  The UBR has traditionally been set by Government and cannot be challenged, but rateable value is reassessed every five to seven years, and ensuring that this is correct and fair can have a major impact on a business’s profitability.

Arnolds Keys advises businesses on whether they should be contesting a reassessment, based on our experience, extensive database and unrivalled knowledge of the local commercial property market.  If we recommend that an appeal is merited, we then submit the appeal, undertake negotiations with the Valuation Officer on a client’s behalf.

Although every business is entitled to appeal against a rates reassessment, deciding whether to do so requires considerable knowledge and skill, because an appeal can result in the rateable value being increased as well as decreased.  Unfortunately this is a field which has attracted some unqualified operators, so choosing a reputable firm of qualified Chartered Surveyors is vital.

why choose arnolds keys?

  • Extensive in-house database
  • Reputable, longstanding firm of Chartered Surveyors
  • Backed by full range of property services in-house
